The Atherton Tablelands Carols by Candlelight is one of the regions most popular events attracting a crowd of over 1500 people. The event is presented by the Atherton Christian Churches and is billed as an event for the whole community attracting patrons from Cairns to Ravenshoe and beyond.
Always held on the last Saturday before the end of the school term, the ‘Carols’ is a showcase of local and regional talent, involving school choirs, seasoned and up-and-coming performers, bands, and dance groups. This professionally produced event, with state-of-the-art sound and lighting is held in the Atherton Showgrounds, Robert Street.
Big video screens ensure that everyone can catch all the action on stage and two more screens project the lyrics to enable community involvement in singing all of the favourite carols.
The Nativity story, presenting the real meaning of the Christmas, is beautifully dramatised by children from local schools. Santa Claus has never failed to show up, delighting the younger audience.
Pre-carols entertainment commences at 6.30 pm followed by the main event at 7.00 pm. Food and drinks are on sale throughout the night and glo-candles are also available for purchase.
Entry to this not-to-be missed event is free, presented as a gift to the community.
